Details of the four-day MAROON FESTIVAL PROGRAM have now been announced, with plenty of famous faces, fun activities and good food to delight Queenslanders young and old.
Sunday 28 May – Wednesday 31 May 2017
South Bank Cultural Forecourt, Brisbane
From 10am daily
Queensland Rugby League, in partnership with The Star Entertainment Group, is pleased to announce a star-studded line-up of free entertainment and interactive activities for the whole family at the inaugural MAROON FESTIVAL.
From Sunday 28 May until Wednesday 31 May, South Bank Parklands will become the official Maroon fan zone where proud and passionate supporters will come together to celebrate rugby league and the very best of Queensland.
The festival will kick off with a Fan Day on Sunday 28 May, with the 2017 XXXX Queensland Maroons in attendance for the Maroon River Parade. In a Queensland first, the players will cruise down the Brisbane River and dock at South Bank. Fans of all ages will have the opportunity to see their heroes in person.
The Parade will be broadcast LIVE on big screens across the entire festival precinct. This will be the Maroons first public appearance in 2017 and their only opportunity to meet fans in the lead-up to Game I of the 2017 Holden State of Origin Series.
During Fan Day, the Queenslander Stage will light up with inspiring panel discussions, trivia battles, performances for our mini-maroons and words of wisdom from Former Origin Greats including Gene Miles, Brent Tate, Petero Civoniceva and Wally Lewis, national sporting heroes like champion beach volleyballer Natalie Cook and Olympic gold medallist Hayley Lewis, along with many other famous faces, care of our presenting partner, The Star Entertainment Group.
Other special guests making an appearance on Fan Day include actor Lincoln Lewis (son of King Wally), Triple M star and ex-Wallaby Greg ‘Marto’ Martin, Australian netball captain Laura Geitz, current Jillaroos players Chelsea Baker and Renae Kunst, as well as former Queensland Women’s Rugby League players Karyn Murphy and Tracey Thompson.
Festival goers will also hear from TV presenter Chris Parsons, Triple M Radio Drive Host Luke Bradnam, Sports reporter, commentator and presenter Ben Davis and Media Personality Kimberley Busteed, who will all be joining the celebrations.
Paralympic swimming medallist Lakeisha Patterson will be rounding out the star-studded lineup: along with Australian of the Year finalist 2014 and Paralympic Football Coach Jay Larkins, Paralympic wheelchair rugby player Cameron Carr, Australian Kangaroos Elite Performance Manager Troy Thomson, celebrity chefs Alastair McLeod and Dominique Rizzo, Brisbane’s own Those Two Girls, Lise and Sarah and Margaux Parker (wife of Corey Parker) and Rachel Thaiday (wife of Sam Thaiday).
For the kids, there will be healthy cooking demos and activities (did someone say Peppa Pig and the Animals Rock band?!) over at the Health & Wellness Green, along with a Fit + Fun Zone guaranteed to get the whole family moving. Activities on offer include ping pong with stars from The Bachelor and The Block; a Longest Drive PGA challenge; and cricket, netball, football and basketball skill testing with the pros.
Maroon Festival will culminate in a huge live broadcast of Game I at the first ever Holden State of Origin Live Site on Wednesday 31 May. This family-friendly setting is the perfect place to settle in and soak up the legendary Origin atmosphere for FREE from 4pm until 10pm.
In addition to Game Day and Fan Day, there is a full program of FREE activities happening every day from 10am onwards.
Throughout the festival, fans will be able to check out the Legends Walk where they can collect Former Origin Greats through an exciting new augmented reality treasure hunt or have their photo taken in the Locker Room, with a life sized replica of the one at Suncorp Stadium.
The Waterfront Garden Bar will be open every day of the festival and will serve as the Maroon’s social hub – somewhere you can meet, eat and enjoy four days of free entertainment by the river.
So gather your friends and family and come along to celebrate our history, our community and our lifestyle with four action-packed days of free activities and entertainment for the whole family.
